A term to know.
The person charged in a will with administering the estate of a deceased individual. Duties include filing the decedent's will in the local probate jurisdiction, collecting the assets, filing an inventory, paying debts and expenses, filing an accounting with the local probate authorities, filing Form 706 (the Federal Estate Tax Return) and state estate tax returns, and making distributions as directed by the will.
